Sleep is always a a hard thing when you are busy thinking about things such as Peru. I have been trying to change my normal sleep schedule (11 AM - 3 AM) to a better Peruvian schedule (6 AM - 10 PM). Peru is also 2 hours time difference so waking up at 4 AM, which is when I should have been waking up, has not happened yet. The last few weeks of my life have been nothing but thinking. Thinking about the epic long flight, I have never been out of the country so the 12+ hour flight to Peru seems like an eternity. Thinking about what I need to take, what I need to pack and even if my first experience with archaeology and traveling in another country is going to be something I like. Who am I kidding I have waited for this my whole life, this is my chance to be a little like Indiana Jones.
I finally finished packing last night, and the totals for weights are in. I weighed myself and do to my moms good cooking since I have been home I now weigh 237.6. Before I moved home I was at 230, I am sure I will lose this weight plus some while I am in Peru. My 3 bags weighed in at 119.8, yeah that's over a 100 lbs in gear. It makes me wish sometime I hadn't volunteered to carry that 40 lb steering box for our field vehicles, haha that's another story. My camera bag which is also my daypack weighs in at 26, plus the multiple tripods and stuff that are strapped to my other backpack. This will really show me how bad I want to film documentaries like Les Stroud on Survivorman. Les only goes into the wild with 30+ lbs of camera gear it is no wonder, he doesn't take anything else to survive that much camera gear is more weight than anyone would want to carry.
I know I will be able to get this gear to Peru, for the last few hundred years explorers and adventurers have carried tons of gear into the heart of places like Africa or the Amazon. They might have had hired porters to help carry some of the load, but me being a broke college student I am going to have to do it myself. This should be an interesting test of my will and strength. I have always believed that "what doesn't kill you will only make you stronger", and I don't plan on dying anytime soon.
I do not know how regular my access to internet will be but, I will try to post short things up if I have a chance, if not my video I am filming will have to show my adventure to everyone once I get home.
